Becoming Aunt Jess

Next winter I will become Aunt Jess officially for the first time. My BFF's little boys know me as Aunt Jess, but I am not at their family Christmas or family reunions, because I am not actually family. This past week, however, my sister-in-law and her husband announced at dinner that they are expecting their first. Initially this was hard to hear as I have struggled with fertility issues and then other hardships that have acted as obstacles to parenthood. After a couple days I decided to let go of the negativity and just truly be happy for them (not that I wasn't before, I just wanted to only bask in the happiness and not my own sadness).
So now I get to officially be Aunt Jess. My first act as Aunt Jess is to help mommy-to-be find something to alleviate morning sickness. As a little congratulations gift I ordered some preggie pops from Amazon (non of our local retailers carried them) and I am going to get together a little pregnancy gift basket for her and hubby. I have to say I am pretty stoked to be one of four aunts for this baby. My husband, for now, is the only uncle so I told him he needs to get the little guy or gal a shirt about being its fave uncle. He didn't get the concept.
We're going to have to work on his baby excitement.
